Members of The Academy of Political Science are already entitled to receive free online access to PSQ's searchable archive dating back to 1996 at www.psqonline.org. Through a special arrangement between the Academy and JSTOR, we are able to offer online access to the searchable full text of all articles and book reviews since PSQ’s founding in 1886 to five years earlier than the current issue. JSTOR now includes access to all 150 issues of the Proceedings of the Academy of Political Science that were published as a series from 1910 to 1991. This arrangement is only available to current individual members of the Academy as an add-on of $29 to annual membership dues.
Also through a collaborative pilot program, the Academy of Political Science can offer its members access to the back issues of other select journals in JSTOR: American Journal of International Law, American Political Science Review, PS: Political Science and Politics, Proceedings of the American Political Science Association, and American Journal of Political Science. Individual access subscribers will be able to search and browse the full text of all of these journals plus PSQ and the Proceedings of the Academy of Political Science.
JSTOR is a non-profit organization dedicated to the digital preservation of academic journals. Originally, only universities, colleges, and other not-for-profit research organizations were allowed to subscribe to the service. PSQ in JSTOR is now being offered as part of an effort to grant access to individuals unaffiliated with participating institutions.
Further information is available at JSTOR's website along with a demonstration database at http://www.jstor.org
A list of participating libraries in the U.S. and in the U.K. is available at http://www.jstor.org/about/participants_na.html and at http://www.jstor.org/about/participants_uk.html
JSTOR's primary emphases are on the creation of a trusted archive of the back files of core scholarly journals, and improving access to those back files. Besides being inconvenient to access in paper form, these materials occupy large amounts of shelf space at great cost to the academic library community. JSTOR works with publishers to digitize the back files of scholarly journals, going back to volume 1, issue 1 in all cases. Current issues of journals are not included in the JSTOR database.
