Ethnic Political Transition in Boston, 1884-1933: Some Lessons for Contemporary Cities
Peter K. Eisinger examines the transition from Yankee to Irish rule in Boston in the decades around the turn of the century in order to explore the ways in which a group displaced from power adjusts to its new status. The case is treated as a possible analogue to transitions occurring at present in cities where black mayors have been elected.
