United States 2024: The Election and Political Danger

The French Institute for International and Strategic Affairs (IRIS), in collaboration with The Academy of Political Science, the Urban and Social Policy Program at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), and The University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), held the inaugural conference of the Political and Geostrategic Observatory of the United States.
The United States, one year away from the presidential election and as the campaign for the primaries begins, holds a major position on the global stage. Through an exceptional panel, the Political and Geostrategic Observatory of the United States at IRIS analyzed major issues of the 2024 presidential election.
ESTER R. FUCHS is Professor of International and Public Affairs and Political Science and is the Director of the Urban and Social Policy Program at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. She served as Special Advisor to the Mayor for Governance and Strategic Planning under New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg from 2001 to 2005. Professor Fuchs serves as Director of WhosOnTheBallot.org, an online voter engagement initiative for New York City.
MARIE-CÉCILE NAVES is senior research fellow at IRIS and Director of the Gender and Geopolitics Observatory. She has written several publications on the United States, notably about the American right-wing parties, and she also works on gender and gender equality issues, education and youth policies, and the socio-political issues in sports.
FEDERICO SANTOPINTO is Senior Research Fellow at the French Institute for International and Strategic Affairs (IRIS) in Paris. He is specialized on European integration in defence and foreign policy, as well as on military and security cooperation between the European Union (EU) and Africa. As such, he also follows the EU development cooperation policies used for conflict prevention and crisis management.
ROMUALD SCIORA is the Director of the Political and Geostrategic Observatory of the United States at IRIS, where he is an associate researcher. A French-American non-fiction writer and political scientist, he is the author of numerous books, articles, and documentaries, and he frequently appears in international media to provide commentary on current events. He lives in New York.
