The Politics of the American Catholic Hierarchy
Timothy A. Byrnes examines the political role of the American Catholic hierarchy. He argues that the decay of the Democrat New Deal coalition and the major parties' subsequent attempts to build a new electoral majority placed the bishops near the center of American electoral politics in the 1970s and 1980s.
